Do you know a child who has always wanted to take up knitting as a hobby but never had a chance to learn how? Check out our new Beginners Knitting Class for Kids!
Taught by Peggy Taylor, a spinner-weaver and fiber artist, this two-part class will give kids in grades 4-8 a chance to try their hand at this relaxing hobby. Classes will be held at the Atheneum Visitors Center in New Harmony from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 9th and Saturday, March 16th. Parents and guardians are encouraged to accompany children on the program, and adult-size knitting needles will be available to the adults to learn to knit, too! Historic New Harmony staff will be present and assisting with the program on both days.
Cost: $15. The price includes the cost of each supply kit (knitting needles and yarn needles, worsted weight yarn, bag). Please indicate when you register your child whether the adult who accompanies them would like to purchase an adult-sized kit in addition to the child-sized kit.
The class is limited to 8 students, so be sure to register soon!

Meet in the Street 2023
Oct 08, 2023 @ 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm CDT
For the fourth time, the epic, beautiful community potluck Meet in the Street will take place in New Harmony on Sunday, October 8, 2023. (In the event of rain, it will be 10/15/23)
Tables and chairs and plates and decorations will be set up down the middle of Main Street from Church Street to Steammill. Setup will begin at 5:00 and the meal will begin at 6:00.
You must purchase a $5.00 “placeholder” ticket at Capers by October 6. This allows us to determine how many places to set and helps ensure we have adequate chairs, tables, plates, etc.
Bring a covered dish. When you get your ticket, we’ll be asking what kind of food you’ll be bringing so that we can provide suggestions to others about what categories we need more of. (We don’t want to end up with 57 casserole dishes of green beans, do we?)
Want to play a role in putting on Meet in the Street? We have lots of ways to get involved. See this PDF Document of tasks to volunteer for: Meet in the Street Volunteer List.
