APRIL 12th through 15th!
The First Brush of Spring Plein Air Paint Out, which takes place all over New Harmony, Indiana April 12-15 brings over 100 artists from multiple states to the town to paint in the great outdoors as New Harmony is abloom with color and and beauty.
While the event is designed for artists — ALL of us benefit. Watching the artists create their works is incredibly fun. They choose such diverse subjects and there is quite a wide range of artistic styles.
There is a Quick Draw Competition on Thursday where the artists get their canvases stamped before 3:00 and 3:30, then await the starting bell before dashing off to their desired spot to paint as quickly as possible before the deadline (5:00 p.m.) to get their canvases set up on their easel at 5:00 for judging. It is astonishing how detailed and well done they are in that span of time.
Some of the painters start early in the morning; others paint into the night. Wherever you look, art is in the works.
On Saturday, don’t forget to bring your checkbook or card as the artists show and sell their work from 9:00 to 12:00 in the Ribeyre Center on Main Street. Their offerings will include not only works done during the Paint Out, but other pieces as well.
