More Perfect Places – a Celebratory Theatre Project

Recurring event see all

Jun 11 @ 6:00 pm 9:00 pm CDT

More Perfect Places is a celebratory theatre project written by Seth Bockley in collaboration with Liz Nofziger, Tanya Palmer, and Angela Tillges.

This project is inspired by the 19th century utopian history of the Southern Indiana town of New Harmony and its evolution into a site of contemporary art and architecture in the 20th century. Combining historical research with conversations with current day Hoosiers, More Perfect Places explores the power of idealism, imagination, and rethinking the world we live in. Is another world possible? Can we make it in our communities? Whose vision(s) will guide us? How does history inform our dreams of the future?

Experience the full spectacle in New Harmony — two nights only!
June 10 – 11, 2022 — 6:00 – 9:00 pm
Thrall’s Opera House, New Harmony, IN
Reserve your free tickets now or first come first serve day of the show

Part community gathering, part formal theater, and part outdoor spectacle and social time. Here’s what we have planned for you:

  • 6:00 pm: Join us on the lawn for a community BYOPicnic & activities for all ages.
  • 7:00 pm: Enjoy a beautiful theater production based on New Harmony’s history, bringing the past to life through vivid characters and perspectives ranging from famous Utopians to contemporary citizens, and even wolves and honeybees.
  • 8:00 pm: Let your imagination soar at a multimedia display of contemporary utopian visions from Southern Indiana Youth — results of our school residency work — with live music from local favorites, BlueHarmony!

Want to get involved in the performance? We’re looking for youth (between 10 – 20 years old) to join us as performers in the production. Availability June 9th 3:30-9pm, June 10+11th 5:30-9:30pm at Thrall’s Opera House. No performance experience necessary. Interested? Contact:
